Guro Jørgensen

Guro Jørgensen is an Associate Professor in Social Studies (Museum Studies) and Academic Programme Director for the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Archive and Collection Management at NTNU's Department of Teacher Education within the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences. She holds a PhD in museology (2021), M.A. in archaeology (2003), and has worked extensively in archaeological excavations and museum collection management at NTNU University Museum from 2003-2016.

Her research focuses on museum sociology, particularly the evolving role of museums as democratic spaces for public dialogue and participation. Key interests include digitization challenges in collection management, museum ethics, and the transformation of museums from knowledge disseminators to interactive social arenas. Her doctoral work analyzed the dual role of Norwegian university museums as academic experts and science communicators in an era of societal demands for public engagement.

Her publications and exhibitions explore participatory museum practices, digital transformation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Notable works include her 2021 PhD thesis on university museums' institutional identity and 2019 chapter on visitor dialogues as knowledge-generating practices. She has designed educational workshops and exhibitions addressing biodiversity, historical narratives, and digital accessibility.

Her teaching spans museum-society relationships, archive management, and museum pedagogy. She actively contributes to outreach programs like NTNU's summer schools and public lectures on local history and museum practices.
