معرفی
Inne Borel Rinkes is a Full Professor of Surgical Oncology at Utrecht University, affiliated with the University Medical Center Utrecht. His roles include surgeon, residency program director (2001–2012), and external positions such as Bestuurslid (Board Member) at the Netherlands Society for International Surgery and the Stichting Michael van Vloten Fonds. He is a leading figure in translational oncology, bridging fundamental and clinical research to combat cancer through innovative therapies and diagnostics.
Education:
- MD-degree cum laude from Leiden University (1976–1984), while serving as Donor-Allocation-Coordinator for Eurotransplant.
- Residency in surgery at Red Cross Hospital, The Hague (1984–1986).
- Surgical training at Rotterdam’s Zuiderziekenhuis and University Hospital Dijkzigt (1986–1993).
- Doctoral research at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University (1991–1992), culminating in a PhD on "Hepatocytes in the development of liver support systems" (1993).
Research Interests:
His work focuses on advancing surgical oncology through translational research. Key areas include colorectal liver metastases treatment, angiogenesis mechanisms in cancer and liver regeneration, and optimizing surgical procedures like vein embolization. He emphasizes integrating preclinical findings with clinical practice to improve patient outcomes, particularly in hepatic and colorectal cancers. Collaborations with international groups (e.g., Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group) highlight his commitment to global oncology standards.
Publications Trends:
Recent articles address cutting-edge techniques in vascular embolization for liver surgery, molecular pathways in metastasis (e.g., VEGF-C), and consensus-based reclassification of appendiceal tumors. These reflect a balance between surgical innovation, molecular mechanisms, and clinical guideline development in oncology.
Awards:
- 2013 Catharijne Award for outstanding translational research and surgical oncology patient care.
Advising & Grants:
As a mentor, he supervised the residency program at UMC Utrecht (2001–2012). His research has been supported by grants including NWO’s Dutch Society for Scientific Research (AGIKO E.A. te Velde) and the Vanderes Foundation (J.M. Vogten), focusing on anti-angiogenic therapies and liver regeneration studies. He also collaborates on projects like the Catharijne Award-winning work on angiogenesis in cancer and cirrhosis.
Labs & Teams:
He leads the Translational oncology research group at UMC Utrecht, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations between clinicians and basic scientists to accelerate oncology breakthroughs.
