Inna Altschul is an Associate Professor at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW), where she also serves as the assistant dean for program assessment and evaluation. Her research focuses on promoting positive development among low-income, immigrant, and Latino/a children, youths, and families. She teaches MSW courses in high-risk youth, practice evaluation, and research.
Altschul holds a Ph.D. in Social Work and Sociology (University of Michigan, 2006), an MSW specializing in children and adolescents (University of Michigan, 2003), and additional degrees in Sociology, Geophysics, and a BS from the University of California. Her work integrates ecological, sociological, and psychological perspectives with mixed methodologies.
Her research interests include marginalized families’ development, racial-ethnic identity, youth empowerment, civic engagement, and program evaluation. Notably, she examines pathways linking socioeconomic status (SES) to academic achievement among Mexican American youth, emphasizing parent involvement as a critical mediator. Her publications span topics from parental conflict to intervention design for vulnerable populations.
Altschul’s articles analyze complex relationships between family dynamics, SES, and child outcomes, with implications for policy and practice. While no scientific awards are explicitly mentioned, her extensive publication record reflects recognition in academic circles. Her advising and grants focus on empowering marginalized communities, though specific grants are not detailed here.
