Ingvild Kvale Sørenssen

Ingvild Kvale Sørenssen is a Professor of Childhood Studies at the Department of Pedagogy and Lifelong Learning, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She teaches in master’s programs like Childhood Studies and Pedagogy, as well as the bachelor’s program in Pedagogy. Her academic background includes a Master’s in Media Communication and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies from NTNU. She has held research fellowships at McGill University, Rutgers University, and the University of Southern California.

Her research focuses on children and youth’s identity formation, socialization, and media interactions from a socio-material perspective. Key themes include tween culture, digital media’s role in family life, and the interplay between popular culture and everyday social practices. She co-founded the band The Peer Reviews to satirize academic life.

Current projects include the INSPECT initiative examining post-pandemic societal security in Nordic schools and the K REPORTERS project exploring decolonial childhood studies. Her work bridges media studies, sociology, and pedagogy, emphasizing relational and materialist frameworks.
