Ingvild Kvale Sørenssen is a Professor at the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning at NTNU, specializing in childhood studies, media studies, and education. She holds a Master's in media communication and a PhD in interdisciplinary cultural studies from NTNU. Her research focuses on children's age identity, socialization, and the interplay of popular culture, friendships, and family life, with a sociomaterial perspective emphasizing relational dynamics between humans and non-human actors.
She has been a visiting scholar at McGill University, Rutgers University, and the University of Southern California. Her work explores topics like Norwegian tween girls' experiences, gamer-parent identities, and digital media's role in early childhood education. She co-founded the band The Peer Reviews with Ane Møller Gabrielsen to satirize academic life. Key projects include the INSPECT initiative on post-COVID school security and the K REPORTERS project on decolonial childhood policies.
Her teaching spans programs like the Master in Childhood Studies and the Bachelor in Education. She has published extensively on Disney's cultural impact, digital media in education, and sociomaterial approaches to childhood studies.
