Ingvild Bode is a Professor of International Relations and Director of the Center for War Studies at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). She leads three major research projects: AutoNorms (ERC-funded), AutoPractices (ERC-funded), and HuMach (DFF-funded), focusing on autonomous weapons, AI governance, and human-machine interaction in military contexts. Her work bridges practical theories, constructivist IR, and Science & Technology Studies, with a focus on AI in warfare, UN peacekeeping, and normative change.
Education: PhD in International Relations from Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen (2013), Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching (University of Kent, 2017).
Research Interests: Military AI, international norms, use of force, UN dynamics, and policy analysis. Recent projects include analyzing norms around lethal autonomous weapons and human control in AI-driven military systems.
Awards: 2025 Elite Forsk Research Prize for her contributions to AI governance and international security research.
Grants/Projects: Principal Investigator for ERC grants (AutoNorms, AutoPractices) and DFF-funded HuMach. Collaborations include Royal United Services Institute and University of Kent’s Conflict Analysis Research Centre.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Center for War Studies, a hub for interdisciplinary research on peace and security, with a focus on emerging technologies’ impact on global governance.
