Ingrid Øra is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Lund University's Faculty of Medicine. She serves as a Principal Investigator at the Lund University Cancer Center (LUCC) and holds a Docent position in the Evolution of cancer cells. Her research focuses on pediatric oncology, particularly neuroblastoma and long-term outcomes for childhood cancer survivors.
Dr. Øra's research expertise spans several key areas in childhood cancer:
- Pediatric oncology and neuroblastoma biology
- Risk stratification and biomarkers for high-risk neuroblastomas
- Long-term morbidity and healthcare utilization among childhood cancer survivors
- Ovarian dysfunction and fertility issues following pediatric cancer treatment
- Genetic aspects of childhood cancer development and progression
Her publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on improving outcomes for children with cancer, with particular attention to the molecular mechanisms of neuroblastoma and the long-term consequences of cancer therapy. Her work bridges basic science and clinical applications, aiming to develop more precise risk assessment tools and improve quality of life for survivors.
Dr. Øra has received recognition for her impactful research, particularly her 2012 Nature paper on neuroblastoma sequencing which has garnered over 700 citations.
She actively mentors the next generation of researchers, supervising multiple PhD students and early-career scientists on projects related to childhood cancer. Her leadership extends to collaborative projects examining the socioeconomic impacts of childhood cancer on families and developing interventions for cognitive fatigue after cancer treatment.
Dr. Øra is also involved in clinical research networks, participating in seminars and workshops focused on advancing pediatric cancer care, including the LUCC Child Neuroblastoma Seminar series.
