Dr. Ingrid Whitaker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice at Old Dominion University's College of Arts & Letters. She holds a PhD in Sociology and Social Work from the University of Michigan, complemented by dual MA degrees in Sociology and Social Work from the same institution, and a BA in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Illinois.
Her research examines welfare policy, racial disparities, single parenting dynamics, and social justice issues. Significant projects include analyses of welfare reform's racial dimensions, disaster response equity following Hurricane Katrina, and structural factors affecting African American families. Her scholarship consistently addresses intersections of policy, race, and inequality.
Publications demonstrate sustained focus on devolution's impact on social safety nets, with methodological approaches spanning policy analysis, case studies, and comparative state-level examinations. Recent collaborations include investigations of crime reduction initiatives and community-based interventions.
