Ingrid Sturgis is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Media, Journalism, Film & Communication at the Cathy Hughes School of Communications, Howard University. She holds an M.A. in Journalism from New York University and a B.A. in Art from City College of New York, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at Howard University. Her academic leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration have significantly advanced digital media education at HBCUs.

Topics span mobile money for the unbanked, game-based learning, online education, and the sustainability of traditional media. These works demonstrate a consistent focus on technological equity, digital literacy, and the evolving role of journalism in democratic society.

Professor Sturgis has been instrumental in advising curriculum development and leading research initiatives. She has supervised undergraduate research on topics like 'Fear of Missing Out' (FOMO) and fostered collaborations across disciplines, including the development of the Howard Hookup app with computer science students. Her teaching innovations, including hybrid courses and digital portfolios, have enhanced student engagement and professional readiness.
She leads initiatives in digital scholarship and has developed training programs for institutions like the Bermuda Department of Communication and Information. Her interdisciplinary projects bridge journalism, computer science, and psychology, aiming to cultivate critical thinking and technological fluency among students at HBCUs. She continues to expand her research on mobile technology adoption, media monetization, and the role of social media in political and social change.
