Professor Ingrid Schoon is the Chair of Social Policy at the UCL Social Research Institute, part of the IOE - Faculty of Education and Society. Her research focuses on risk, resilience, and social inequalities in human development, particularly during the transition from childhood to adulthood. She employs longitudinal data such as the British Cohort Studies to analyze how socio-economic adversity impacts competence, health, and attainment. Her work emphasizes contextual influences and pathways to success, with projects like the ESRC-funded Youth Economic Activity and Health (YEAH) monitor and Nuffield-funded studies on care leavers' children.
Prof Schoon holds a PhD in Psychology from Leiden University and has held academic positions at City University London and the Social Science Research Center Berlin.
