Ingrid Martins Holmberg is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Conservation at the University of Gothenburg's Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts. She serves as Research Coordinator for the 'Curating the City' research cluster within the Centre for Critical Heritage Studies and holds board positions at SCAS (Swedish Collegium for Advanced Studies) and the Departmental Board of the Department of Conservation.
Her research centers on built environments in historical perspective, with particular focus on heritage formation processes and the epistemological conditions for expanded building history and cultural heritage. Holmberg investigates urban transformation, participatory approaches to heritage, and the relationship between heritage practices and minority groups, especially the Roma population in Sweden. Her work often examines how 'care' manifests in heritage maintenance and how historical places of marginalized groups become recognized within official heritage institutions.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on the material and social dimensions of heritage, with increasing attention to the Anthropocene context. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks from Foucauldian discourse analysis to Actor-Network Theory, while maintaining a strong empirical grounding in Swedish urban contexts, particularly Gothenburg.
