Dr. Ingrid Bjørge-Engeland is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Physics and Technology at the University of Bergen. Her research focuses on atmospheric electricity phenomena, including terrestrial gamma-ray flashes (TGFs) and lightning-related transient luminous events like elves. She conducts observational studies using aircraft campaigns and satellite data to investigate high-energy atmospheric processes.
Her research analyzes lightning-triggered gamma-ray emissions and their connections to upper atmospheric phenomena. Publications demonstrate expertise in interpreting data from instruments like ASIM (Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor) and developing detection methodologies for weak TGF populations.
Collaborative projects include international teams exploring volcanic impacts on atmospheric electricity and climate interactions. Her work contributes to understanding energy transfer mechanisms between tropospheric storms and the ionosphere.
