Ingrid Bergin, DVM, DACLAM, DACVP, is a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the School of Public Health, University of Michigan. She also holds an Assistant Professor appointment in Laboratory Animal Medicine. With dual board-certification in laboratory animal medicine and veterinary pathology, her work focuses on toxicologic pathology and infectious diseases in mucosal systems such as the gastrointestinal and reproductive tracts.
Dr. Bergin joined the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) faculty in December 2008 and serves in a dual diagnostic service and research role. She contributes to the Pathology Cores for Animal Research (IVAC-PCAR) within ULAM and teaches courses on toxicological pathology, including EHS616 and EHS717. Her research projects include studies on Helicobacter pylori gastric carcinogenesis in Mongolian gerbils and mouse models of Clostridium difficile colitis.
Her work emphasizes molecular mechanisms of chemical toxicity, dietary metal interactions with inflammatory/carcinogenesis pathways in the gut, and reproductive tract pathology in non-human primate and rodent models. She actively collaborates with investigators requiring research pathology support, particularly for gastrointestinal and reproductive disease models.
