Ingo Berensmeyer is a Full Professor of Modern English Literature at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU Munich), Germany. He holds the Chair in the Department of Anglistik und Amerikanistik under the Faculty of Languages and Literatures. Previously, he served as a Full Professor at Justus Liebig University Giessen (2008–2018) and held visiting roles at Ghent University and UC Irvine. His research focuses on literary theory, authorship studies, book history, and early modern English literature. He co-edited The Cambridge Handbook of Literary Authorship (2019) and authored Angles of Contingency (2007/2020). Berensmeyer leads major projects like the Volkswagen Foundation’s 'Author Fictions' and coordinates the DFG-funded 'British Women Writers 1945–1960' initiative. He was elected to the International Association of University Professors of English (IAUPE) in 2012 and currently serves as its President (2023–2026).
His career includes postdoctoral research at the University of Siegen and UC Irvine, and his work spans monographs, handbooks, and peer-reviewed articles. He has held administrative roles such as Director of the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (Giessen, 2009–2018) and sits on editorial boards for journals like Authorship. His research bridges historical and contemporary literary analysis, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to authorship and cultural contexts.
