Inger Ekman is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She serves as former director and founder of the University of Gothenburg Centre for Person-Centred Care (GPCC), a multidisciplinary research center involving ~100 researchers from care sciences, medicine, pedagogy, and economics.

Her research focuses on:
- Communication and symptom management in long-term illness
- Evaluation of person-centred care interventions using controlled designs
- Implementation of complex interventions within constrained healthcare budgets
- Ethical frameworks for equitable healthcare delivery
As coordinator of COST 15222 (2016-present), she leads European-wide implementation studies of person-centred care across 28 countries. Her work bridges clinical practice with health economics, aiming to improve care quality while managing costs.
