Ingeborg Amadou Fossestøl is a Senior Lecturer in Middle East Studies at the University of Oslo. Her research focuses on the role of translations and periodicals in shaping the late Ottoman public sphere (1880–1914). She holds a Master’s degree in Middle East Studies (2017) and dual Bachelor’s degrees in History and French (2012), all from the University of Oslo. Her work explores how French texts were translated and integrated into Ottoman intellectual discourse, emphasizing multilingualism and cultural exchange.
Her recent publications analyze late Ottoman press dynamics, including multilingualism, satirical periodicals, and the intersection of translation with public debate. She contributes to the Critical Historiography research group at the University of Oslo, focusing on historical narratives and cultural transfer.
Research interests include Ottoman intellectual history, translation studies, print culture, and the evolution of public spheres. She has translated Turkish literature into Norwegian and actively engages with interdisciplinary approaches to historical analysis.
