معرفی
Inge Svein Helland is a Professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo. His academic journey includes roles as a University Fellow at the University of Bergen (1974-78) and Professor at the Agricultural University of Norway (1983-1996) before joining the University of Oslo in 1996. He holds a Cand. real. in Mathematical Statistics (1973, University of Bergen) and a Dr. Philos. (1980, University of Oslo).
His research focuses on statistical interpretation of quantum theory, regression methods for high-dimensional data, and symmetry in statistics. Notable contributions include linking quantum mechanics to statistical models through symmetry principles and advancing partial least squares (PLS) regression theory. He has supervised multiple PhD students, including Trygve Almøy and Espen Norberg.
Publications span foundational quantum theory, statistical methodology, and interdisciplinary applications. His work emphasizes model reduction, epistemic processes, and the philosophical foundations of statistical inference. Helland has held editorial roles, including Associate Editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, and participated in international conferences on quantum probability and statistics.
His current research explores quantum foundations from an epistemological angle, aiming to reconcile statistical theory with quantum mechanics. He maintains active collaborations in Norway and internationally, with sabbaticals at institutions like the University of Berkeley and University of Minnesota.
