Indranil Biswas, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology at the University of Kansas. His research focuses on bacterial pathogenesis, particularly the Streptococcus genus and Acinetobacter baumannii, investigating virulence gene regulation, stress tolerance, biofilm formation, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
- NIH-funded studies on ribosome biogenesis and virulence regulation in Streptococcus mutans
- Developed genetic tools for Acinetobacter baumannii and Streptococcus mutans
His work leverages molecular genetics, transcriptomics, and biochemical approaches to understand how pathogens adapt to environmental signals. Recent projects explore desiccation tolerance in Acinetobacter and the role of surface proteases in virulence factor processing. He has mentored over ten postdoctoral and graduate researchers.
Scientific Awards:
- No explicitly listed awards
- NIH Grant Holder
- Extensive contributions to antimicrobial resistance research
Laboratory: Leads a pioneering lab in streptococcal research, with expertise in genetic manipulation, virulence assays, and biofilm dynamics.
