Indra Mahlia

Professor T M Indra Mahlia is a Distinguished Professor at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and a key member of the Centre for Technology in Water and Wastewater (CTWW). He holds a PhD from the University of Malaya. His research focuses on Techno-Economic Analysis, Circular Economy, and the Water-Energy Nexus. He has secured over $5 million in research funding and has been recognized as a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering from 2017 to 2022.

His recent publications emphasize sustainable energy technologies, including hydrogen production, biofuel development, and advanced materials for energy storage. He actively mentors early-career researchers, guiding students like H.C. Ong and A.S. Silitonga, who have themselves become Highly Cited Researchers. His work bridges environmental and mechanical engineering, addressing global challenges in sustainable development.

Professor Mahlia collaborates across disciplines, with notable contributions to renewable energy systems, corrosion-resistant materials, and waste-to-energy processes. His interdisciplinary approach is reflected in his roles leading collaborative projects and supervising postgraduate research.
