Indie A. Choudhury

Dr Indie A. Choudhury is a Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art (University of London). Her research focuses on Black Atlantic cultures, postcolonial studies, and intersections of art with literature and critical theory. She holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cultural Management from the University of London.

Her work examines histories of resistance, diaspora, and metaphysics through artists like Frank Bowling and Faisal Abdu’Allah. Recent projects include curating In Praise of Black Errantry for the Venice Biennale (2024) and advising the Barbican’s Postwar Modern exhibition (2022). She has been supported by fellowships from Yale, Stanford, and grants from the Mellon and Frankenthaler Foundations.

Indie has pioneered initiatives like the Social Justice Forum at Stanford’s Cantor Arts Center and served as Senior Tutor at The Courtauld (2022-23). Her awards include recognition from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Stanford’s African American Studies Program.
