Inaki Carril Mundinano is a Research Fellow in the Department of Physiology at Monash University, specializing in neurosciences with a focus on neural circuitry, neurodevelopment, and brain injury repair. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being. He is a Chief Investigator in an active NHMRC-funded project (2022–2026) examining the long-term impacts of early bushfire exposure on adult brain structure and function.
Key research interests include predator fear circuitry in nonhuman primates, infant astrocyte functions in brain injury recovery, and retinal ganglion cell projections in marmosets. His studies integrate molecular techniques (e.g., CAV-2-mediated gene expression) with neuroanatomical mapping and behavioral analysis in primate models.
Recent publications highlight contributions to understanding visuomotor development, astrocyte-mediated repair mechanisms, and neural plasticity in visually impaired individuals. Collaborations span institutions globally, with active projects exploring translational neurobiology and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
