Dr Ina Zharkevich is a Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology and Development at King's College London, based in the Department of International Development within the School of Global Affairs. She holds a DPhil in Development Studies from the University of Oxford, where she previously served as a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow and Departmental Lecturer. Her work focuses on the intersection of violence, migration, and economic systems in the Nepali Himalayas, with a particular emphasis on transnational families, debt-driven migration, and the anthropology of religion.
Research interests include the anthropology of war and violence, migration economies, and the anthropology of religion, with recent explorations into shamanic traditions and Christian conversion among indigenous groups. She teaches courses on social justice, violence, and inequality at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
