Dr. Ina Reichenberger is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management at the School of Management, Victoria University of Wellington, where she has been teaching since 2017. She completed her PhD at VUW in 2014 and previously taught at MCI Management Center Innsbruck in Austria. Her industry experience includes tourism market research, destination development and consultancy roles in Germany.
Dr. Reichenberger's research focuses on tourist experiences with particular emphasis on popular culture, value co-creation, tourism lifestyles, backpacker travel and consumer behaviour. Her recent projects examine sense of community through popular culture in tourism contexts and charitable behaviour in natural conservation tourist attractions. She has published extensively on film tourism, backpacker experiences, tourism education during the pandemic, and the integration of Indigenous values in tourism businesses.
Her publication analysis reveals consistent focus on the intersection of popular culture and tourism, with increasing attention to sustainability and community engagement. The most recent works demonstrate sophisticated methodological approaches combining quantitative and qualitative methods to examine moral disengagement in film tourism, membership motivations in conservation tourism, and the impact of XR technology on pre-trip experiences.

Dr. Reichenberger actively supervises doctoral students and has completed supervision for projects on children's travel experiences and VR tourism frameworks. She serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Tourism Futures and was previously on the CAUTHE Executive Committee (2018-2022). Her current teaching includes courses on Tourist Behaviour, Tourism Organisations, and Tourism in Aotearoa New Zealand, with assignments scheduled through 2026. She also holds an advisory role with the Mountain Safety Council of New Zealand for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
