Professor Imre Bangha is an Associate Professor of Hindi at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Oriental Studies. He serves as Course Director for the MSc/MPhil Modern South Asian Studies program and teaches core and optional language courses in Hindi, Urdu, Old Hindi, and Bengali.
His research focuses on Old Hindi Poetry, including the emergence of Hindi (particularly Khari Boli) as a literary dialect across various scripts, textual transmission, and Hindi manuscript culture. He explores the continuity of classical Sanskrit aesthetics in court literature and analyzes works by individual poets such as Vishnudas, Kabir, Tulsidas, Bajid, Anandghan, and Thakur.
