Imelda is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Economics at The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), holding the André Hoffmann Assistant Professorship in Environmental and Resource Economics. She is affiliated with the Centre for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR), Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL), Center for International Environmental Studies (CIES), Hoffmann Centre for Global Sustainability, and CESifo Research Network. Her research focuses on the intersection of health, energy, gender, and environmental economics, with an emphasis on clean energy transition policies and their welfare impacts.
Education: PhD in Economics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (2018), followed by postdoctoral research at Carlos III University in Madrid.
Research interests encompass energy economics, environmental governance, sustainable development, and gender equity, particularly in South Africa, the United States, Indonesia, and Spain. She leads the Swiss National Science Foundation project on the economic and environmental implications of South Africa’s electricity crisis.
Her work bridges theoretical and applied microeconomics, addressing policy interventions in energy markets and their socio-economic outcomes, including health impacts and gender disparities.
