معرفی
Prof. Ilona Rolfes is a Full Professor and Chair of High Frequency Systems at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), leading research in microwave and terahertz technologies. She holds roles as Vice Dean for Research (ETIT Faculty) and serves on numerous national/international committees, including acatech (German Academy of Science and Engineering). Her work focuses on radar systems, material characterization, and plasma measurement, with applications in industrial sensing and non-destructive testing.
Education:
- PhD (with distinction), Ruhr University Bochum, 2002
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble), 1997
Research Interests:
Prof. Rolfes specializes in high-frequency systems, including millimeterwave radar, terahertz sensors, and electromagnetic material characterization. Her team develops advanced techniques for industrial process monitoring, plasma diagnostics, and automotive radar applications. Current projects include:
- Dielectric waveguide-based sensors for THz spectroscopy
- Radar tomography for inhomogeneous material analysis
- FMCW radar systems for environmental and industrial sensing
Publications: Recent work emphasizes innovations in radar-based imaging, THz sensor design, and material property estimation. Key themes include ultrawideband radar fusion, environmental signal propagation analysis, and robotic antenna measurement systems.
Awards:
- Full member of German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), 2015
- Doctorate with distinction (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), 2002
Advising & Grants: Supervises PhD students in microwave engineering and leads DFG-funded projects, including the SFB/TRR 196 "MARIE" (electromagnetic material localization). Active in grant reviews for BMBF, DFG, and international agencies.
Labs/Teams: Heads the High Frequency Systems Lab at RUB, collaborating with Fraunhofer Institutes and industry partners on advanced radar and sensor technologies.
