Ilkka Jormanainen is a University Lecturer at the School of Computing, University of Eastern Finland, within the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology. His work focuses on advancing educational technology research with a particular emphasis on computational thinking, educational robotics, and K-12 technology education. He leads initiatives such as the ICT for Education in Eritrea project under the HEI-ICI program and has contributed to EU-funded projects like CONSTRUIT!, TACCLE3, and eCraft2Learn.
Research interests span computational thinking integration in global contexts, educational data mining, and the design of learning environments. He actively supervises four PhD students and teaches courses at the School of Computing. Notable contributions include co-developing the RoboSTEAM framework for STEAM education and leading the Namibia-focused educational robotics workshops highlighted in peer-reviewed publications.
Publications reflect a focus on applying robotics, AI, and digital tools in education to enhance creativity, data literacy, and 21st-century skills. Projects often involve international collaboration with institutions in Africa, Europe, and beyond.
