Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheriesمعرفی
Dr. Ilka Lutz is a Senior Scientist at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin, Germany, where she has been working since 2005. She previously served as a Post-doctoral researcher at IGB from 2000 to 2005. Her work focuses on endocrine disruption in aquatic organisms, particularly amphibians and fish.
Dr. Lutz's educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Biology (1996-1999) from the University of Karlsruhe (TH), with dissertation on "Xenopus laevis as model to study estrogenic effects of environmental chemicals," supervised by PD Dr. W. Kloas
- Diploma in Biology (1995-1996) from the University of Karlsruhe (TH), with thesis on "Comparative studies of cytosolic corticosteroid receptors in the liver of the anuran Xenopus laevis and the urodele Ambystoma mexicanum," supervised by Prof. Dr. W. Hanke
- Bachelor's degree in Biology (1988-1995) from the University of Karlsruhe (TH)
Dr. Lutz's research primarily centers on endocrine disruption in aquatic organisms, with a special focus on amphibians (particularly Xenopus laevis) and fish. Her work investigates how environmental chemicals affect reproductive biology, thyroid function, and developmental processes in these organisms. She has made significant contributions to understanding the mechanisms by which endocrine-disrupting compounds interfere with hormonal systems, including estrogenic, androgenic, progestogenic, and thyroid-disrupting effects. Her research combines molecular, physiological, and ecological approaches to assess environmental risks posed by various pollutants.
Her extensive publication record spanning over two decades demonstrates consistent contributions to the field of environmental toxicology, with recent work focusing on synthetic hormones, pharmaceuticals, and other environmental contaminants. Her research has helped establish standardized testing methods for evaluating endocrine disruption in aquatic organisms.
Dr. Lutz has collaborated extensively with researchers across Europe and has contributed to major scientific reviews and assessments of endocrine-disrupting compounds in the environment.
