Prof. Ilday Fatih Ömer holds a Professorship at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology (ETIT) at Ruhr Universität Bochum (Germany) since 2023, alongside a previous long-term appointment as Professor of Physics and Electrical Engineering at Bilkent University (Turkey). He has held visiting roles at the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Technion. His research focuses on ultrafast optics, laser physics, and nonlinear phenomena, with notable contributions to self-assembly, holography, and laser-material interactions.
Education: Valedictorian in Physics from Boğaziçi University (1998), followed by research and teaching roles at Cornell University. He completed his postdoctoral training at MIT.
Research Interests emphasize experimental and theoretical studies in ultrafast lasers, mode-locking techniques, and nanoscale self-organization. His work bridges fundamental physics with applied technologies like laser-based nanofabrication and high-speed optical systems.
Key Awards include the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship (2023), ERC grants, and Turkey’s highest science award (TÜBİTAK, 2017). His publications reflect interdisciplinary advancements in ultrafast optics and laser engineering. Grants and collaborations include ERC Proof of Concept funding and the Marie Curie program.
