Prof. F. Ömer İlday is a Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. He holds an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship (2023) and an ERC Advanced Grant (2022). His research focuses on developing novel laser technologies, particularly ultrashort pulse lasers and their applications in material processing.

- Ph.D. in Physics, Cornell University, USA (2003)
- Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Scientist, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA (2003–2006)
His research interests include laser physics, ultrafast optics, and photonics. He has pioneered advancements in high-repetition-rate laser systems and their industrial applications. Awards include the TÜBİTAK Science Prize (Turkey’s highest scientific honor) and membership in Academia Europaea and the Turkish Academy of Sciences.
Previously, Prof. İlday was a Professor of Physics and Electrical Engineering at Bilkent University, Turkey (2014–2023). His current work at Ruhr University centers on a groundbreaking laser concept for universal material processing, leveraging crystalline light pulse structures.
