Ilda Maria Lourenco Lindell is a Senior Lecturer (Docent) at the Department of Human Geography, Stockholm University. She also serves as Deputy Head of Department and Coordinator of Research, playing a central role in shaping the department's academic and research directions.
Research Focus: Lindell’s research centers on urban transformation in the Global South, with a particular focus on African cities. Her work critically examines the politics of informality, urban exclusion and inclusion, grassroots organizing, and transnational activism. She explores how urban visions—especially those tied to “world-class city” aspirations—affect marginalized populations, and how these groups resist or adapt to top-down interventions.
Teaching & Supervision: She directs the Master’s Programme in Globalization, Environment and Social Change and coordinates several courses including Environment and Urbanization and Theory and Method. She also supervises master’s theses and is the main supervisor of two PhD candidates.
