Ilaina Goldwert (Lainie) is a Part-Time Assistant Professor at The New School. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Psychological Anthropology from the University of Chicago, alongside an MFA in Poetry from the New School. Her research explores the intersection of culture and psychology, focusing on therapeutic processes, sociocultural context, and sensory experience in practices like yoga. She is a practicing psychodynamic psychotherapist and affiliated with the Society for Psychological Anthropology, American Psychological Association, and Society for Medical Anthropology.
Dr. Goldwert has taught courses such as Group Supervision (GPSY 7031) in recent semesters, with upcoming offerings in Fall 2025. Her clinical interests include integrating mindfulness with psychoanalytic approaches to therapy, and she examines emotional expression through a cultural lens.
