Kevin Groark is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Communication, Society and Culture at Macquarie University. He holds dual PhDs in Anthropology (2005, University of California, Los Angeles) and Psychoanalytic Sciences (2015, New Center for Psychoanalysis), with a career focus on Highland Maya dream culture, emotional expression, and sociocultural conflict.
His research bridges psychological anthropology and psychoanalytic theory, particularly examining Tzotzil Maya communities in Chiapas, Mexico. Key themes include intersubjectivity, ethnopsychology, and the therapeutic dimensions of indigenous cultural practices.
Recent work (2019-2021) explores intersections between Freudian theory and Boasian anthropology, while a 2017-2018 project analyzed dream aggression as a lens for social antagonism in Maya society. He has contributed to journals such as Current Anthropology, Ethos, and American Ethnologist.
