Ikechukwu Nwaka, PhD, is an Assistant Lecturer at the Alberta School of Business (University of Alberta), specializing in Marketing, Business Economics, and Law. His research focuses on Labour Economics, Gender Studies, Environmental Economics, and Economic Development, with particular attention to household decision-making in African contexts and energy policy in Canada. He serves as an Editorial Member of the Journal of African Development and Kadın/Woman 2000.
Dr. Nwaka holds a PhD in Economics and teaches courses such as BUEC 563 - Energy Industries and Markets, emphasizing market structures, public policy, and environmental constraints. His research explores intersections like climate change impacts on African households, energy poverty, and gender dynamics in entrepreneurship and household resource allocation.
His recent work analyzes gender-differentiated factors in home-based self-employment in Nigeria (2024), informal enterprise returns (2024), and environmental decision-making triggers (2020). He has published widely on Nigerian labour markets, food insecurity, and energy policy, with a focus on gendered outcomes and regional development challenges.
Dr. Nwaka’s contributions bridge microeconomic analysis with macro-level policy, addressing issues like minimum wage impacts in Canada (2021) and CO₂ emissions in ECOWAS nations (2020). His research often employs mixed-methods approaches, integrating quantitative techniques like quantile regression with qualitative insights.
