Iiris Helena Tuominen is a Researcher at the University of Lapland’s Faculty of Social Sciences and holds a Doctoral Researcher role in the Faculty of Law and Discipline-specific doctoral programme. Her work focuses on legal theory, human rights law, and Indigenous studies, particularly regarding Sámi cultural heritage and energy transition governance.
Research Interests: Legal philosophy, EU law applications to minority rights, Sámi democratic participation in energy policy, and ethical challenges in Indigenous research. Current projects include SápmiDem (Sámi democratic engagement in energy transition) and EU-funded cultural heritage digitization initiatives.
Recent Work Trends: Recent publications emphasize intersections between law, digital governance, and Indigenous rights—particularly ethical frameworks for cultural heritage management and asylum seeker confessional practices. Articles often critique legal systems’ handling of marginalized groups’ rights.
