Ihnmi Jon is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University, where she also served as a Lecturer from 2023–2024. Her academic career bridges art history and museum curating, with a focus on rethinking global art narratives beyond Eurocentric frameworks. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Binghamton University (2021), an M.A. and B.A. from Seoul National University.
Her research interrogates the globalization of artworld structures and the racialized identity formation of Asian artists. Current projects include a book manuscript analyzing Cai Guo-Qiang’s career as a case study of the 'global artist,' alongside studies of Korean artists such as Byron Kim and Christine Sun Kim. She also plans an anthology challenging disciplinary orthodoxies in modern/contemporary Asian art.
Ihnmi’s curatorial work includes organizing exhibitions by Olafur Eliasson (2021) and Ugo Rondinone (2022), where she contributed critical essays. She actively engages in academic discourse through events like the College Art Association conferences (2020, 2023) and the IFA-Frick Symposium (2021).
