North Carolina Central Universityمعرفی
Igor V. Bondarev is a distinguished Professor of Physics at North Carolina Central University's College of Science & Technology, where he has served for 15-20 years as evidenced by the NC State Excellence in Service Certificate (2021/2025). His academic journey began at Belarusian State University where he earned his M.S. (1989) and Ph.D. (1994) in Physics, followed by a D.Sc. (2001) from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a prestigious habilitation degree awarded to less than one percent of active scientists in the former Soviet Union.
His educational background includes:
- D.Sc. in Theoretical Solid-State Physics, National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus (2001)
- Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics, Belarusian State University (1994)
- M.S. in Physics (with honors), Belarusian State University (1989)
Professor Bondarev's research spans theoretical condensed matter physics, optical physics, and atomic/molecular physics with particular focus on polaron/plasmon/exciton/polariton effects, electron/spin transport in nanostructures, and quantum electrodynamics of semiconductor and carbon nanostructures. His work on confinement-induced nonlocal electromagnetic response theory for ultrathin transdimensional quantum materials has been verified experimentally at room and cryogenic temperatures. He has developed groundbreaking theories on excitonic complexes in van der Waals semiconductors and near-field quantum electrodynamics for carbon nanotube systems, with multiple theories confirmed experimentally.
His publication record demonstrates consistent innovation in transdimensional materials research, with recent work focusing on nonlocal effects in plasmonics, Casimir phenomena in carbon nanotube metasurfaces, and controlling quantum emission through ultrathin plasmonic films. His research shows a clear trajectory from fundamental theoretical work to practical applications in nanophotonics and quantum materials.
Professor Bondarev's scientific achievements have been recognized through numerous awards:
- KITP Fellow 2022–2023 Recognition Award from the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics
- NC State Excellence in Service Certificate (2021/2025)
- NCCU College of Science & Technology Outstanding Faculty Research Award (2012, 2007)
- NCCU Faculty Senate Award for Scholarly Achievements (2007)
- NCCU Office of Sponsored Research Award for Technology Innovations (2012)
- Presidential Young Investigator Award from Minsk, Belarus (1999–2001)
He has secured significant research funding from the US National Science Foundation, US Department of Energy, and US Army Research Office, supporting his work on transdimensional chiral metasurfaces and unconventional superconducting states in bilayer semiconductors. Professor Bondarev has mentored numerous graduate students through PHYS 5800/5900 (Graduate Research/Thesis) and teaches core graduate courses including Advanced Quantum Mechanics, Advanced Solid-State Physics, and Advanced Statistical Mechanics. His international collaborations span institutions in Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Japan, and the United States, reflecting his global impact in theoretical physics.
Professor Bondarev leads research on transdimensional materials and has established himself as a leading expert in the theoretical foundations of quantum phenomena in low-dimensional systems, with particular expertise in carbon-based nanomaterials and their optical properties.
