Dr. Igor Siedlecki is a researcher at the University of Warsaw, specializing in fungal ecology and interactions between fungi and social insects. His work focuses on red wood ants (Formica polyctena), Mucoromycota, and fungal biodiversity conservation. He has led multiple grants as principal investigator, including the ongoing Biodiversa+ project FunDive (2023/05/Y/NZ9/00106), and completed projects on ant-associated fungal adaptations and mycobiota analysis.
His research interests include fungal taxonomy, symbiotic relationships between ants and fungi, and citizen science applications in mycology. He has conducted fieldwork in Białowieża Primeval Forest and collaborated internationally, including at the Babes-Bolayi University in Romania. Siedlecki actively participates in professional societies such as the International Mycological Association and the Polish Mycological Society.
Key projects include discovering the genus Formicomyces and analyzing fungal communities in ant nests, contributing to understanding evolutionary adaptations in ant-associated fungi. His work bridges ecological field studies with taxonomic and phylogenetic analyses, emphasizing practical conservation applications through biodiversity monitoring.
