Igor Maslennikov is a Lecturer in the Department of Central, Eastern, and Northern European Studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Arts. He specializes in German Studies, with a focus on Applied Linguistics, Intercultural Communication, and the Philosophy of Education. He has been teaching German language and related subjects since 2006, including roles at UBC Continuing Studies, SFU’s Language Training Institute, and private institutions.
Education: He holds a PhD in Philosophy of Education (2021) and an MA in Liberal Studies (2016) from Simon Fraser University (SFU). Earlier studies include Minsk State Linguistic University (Belarus) and Karl-Marx University (Leipzig, Germany), along with an internship at the Carl Duisberg Society (Cologne).
Research: His work centers on Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogic theory in educational contexts, particularly its application to language teaching methodologies. His monograph Teaching Foreign Languages with Michael Bakhtin: Phenomenology in the Classroom (2022) explores Bakhtinian philosophy’s impact on pedagogy.
Publications include journal articles on German language studies, translation techniques, and intercultural communication, spanning from 2003 to 2022.
Additional roles: Volunteer translator during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, and author of short stories and blogs reflecting on family life, literature, and cultural themes.
