Igor Konieczny is Professor and Head of Molecular Biology at the University of Gdańsk's Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology. He directs the Inter-university Doctoral School of Biotechnology and leads research on bacterial DNA metabolism, specializing in plasmid replication, partitioning, and stress response systems.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, University of Gdańsk (1994)
- Habilitation, University of Gdańsk (2000)
- Full Professor (2004)
His laboratory investigates replication mechanisms of broad-host-range plasmids, chaperone-protease systems, and nucleoid-associated proteins in bacteria. Recent work characterizes Rep protein-DNA interactions, polyphosphate-mediated proteolysis, and Lsr2 protein functions in mycobacteria. Honors include EMBO and HHMI awards.
Konieczny coordinates EU projects through COST Biomedicine Domain and teaches Molecular Biology of Nucleic Acids. He completed research stays at UCSD and collaborates internationally on antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
