Dr. Igor Štiks is a Professor at the Faculty of Media and Communications, University of Belgrade, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. He has held academic positions at universities in Edinburgh, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, and Graz. His interdisciplinary work bridges citizenship studies, cultural theory, and political activism, with a focus on Southeast Europe and post-Yugoslav contexts. Štiks earned his PhD from Northwestern University and Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris, and holds an MA in Philosophy (University of Paris 8) and BA in Philosophy & Comparative Literature (University of Zagreb).
Research Interests: Citizenship studies, social movements, cultural studies, political art, and post-socialist transformation in Southeast Europe. His publications include award-winning monographs like Nations and Citizens in Yugoslavia and novels translated into 15 languages, including A Castle in Romagna and W.
- Recipient of the prestigious Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (France) for literary/intellectual contributions
- Winner of the Belgrade International Theatre Festival Grand Prix (2011) for Elijah’s Chair adaptation
Key presentations include discussions on activist aesthetics at the University of Warwick and Royal Geographical Society. His work engages with themes of resistance, identity, and historical memory in post-conflict societies.
