Ignacio F. Rodeño is a Professor of Spanish at the Department of Modern Languages & Classics in the College of Arts and Sciences, University of Alabama. He holds a PhD in Philosophy and Letters - English from Universidad de Deusto and a PhD in Hispanic Literatures and Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, complemented by advanced degrees from the same institutions.
Dr. Rodeño's research focuses on US Latina/o, Caribbean, and Mexican literatures and cultures, with specific expertise in Hispanic autobiography, narratives of the self, literary theory, and transatlantic studies. His teaching portfolio includes graduate seminars on critical theory, US Latino literatures, Caribbean-Mexican-Latino self-narratives, Hispanic autobiography, literary theory, Cuban-American literature, Chicana literature, and advanced undergraduate courses on Spanish American masterpieces.
His publications explore postmodern spatiality, gendered subalternity, and transatlantic identity formation through critical analyses of works by Rosario Castellanos, Cristina García, and Luis Rafael Sánchez. Notable works include Four Books, One Latino Life: Reading Richard Rodriguez (2021) and contributions to journals like The Latin Americanist and Revista Cayey.
As Director of Graduate Studies, he plays a pivotal role in academic leadership while maintaining active engagement in teaching and research.
