Ieva Gudaitytė is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Media and Communication within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo, simultaneously maintaining student affiliations with both the Faculty of Humanities and Centers directly under the University Board.
Her academic foundation includes an MA in Cultural Musicology from the University of Amsterdam (2020), where her thesis examined community radio politics in Budapest, and a BSc in Physics and Music from the University of Edinburgh (2018), analyzing Soviet Lithuanian rock traditions.
Her research centers on community radio as a space for collective sense-making during wartime, particularly in Ukraine. She investigates sonic practices like dancing and archiving through Sound Studies, Music and Politics, and Popular Musicology frameworks, revealing how radio fosters aural citizenship against imperial narratives and processes trauma through sound.
Recent publications analyze Kyiv's Gasoline Radio and international collaborators, demonstrating radio's dual function in communicating wartime experiences while creating spaces for processing hope and agency amid cultural destruction.
Funded by her Doctoral Research Fellow position, she collaborates extensively with 20ft Radio and Gasoline Radio in Kyiv, Cashmere Radio in Berlin, and Kapitał Radio in Warsaw as core fieldwork sites for her ethnographic research on wartime media resilience.
