Ida Robertsen is a Professor at the University of Oslo's School of Pharmacy, specifically within the Section for Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Biosciences. Her primary focus is on pharmacokinetics research with special emphasis on individualized drug treatment, particularly in transplant medicine and obesity-related conditions.
Dr. Robertsen earned her PhD in Pharmacological treatments and monitoring strategies to improve outcome in solid organ transplants from the School of Pharmacy, University of Oslo in 2014. Prior to this, she completed her Master in Pharmacy at the same institution in 2008, with research focused on Effects of rimonabant on cyclosporine A and tacrolimus pharmacokinetics in renal transplant recipients.
Her research primarily centers on characterizing factors that contribute to variability in drug response. A significant portion of her work focuses on therapeutic drug monitoring of immunosuppressants in kidney transplant recipients, examining how factors like circadian rhythm, fasting status, and the microbiome affect drug metabolism and efficacy. She has also conducted extensive research on how obesity, bariatric surgery, and weight loss impact drug pharmacokinetics, particularly for drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes. Her work often involves developing and validating novel sampling methods for therapeutic drug monitoring, including volumetric finger-prick self-sampling techniques.
Dr. Robertsen has been instrumental in several major research projects, including the COCKTAIL study which examined the impact of body weight, low energy diet, and gastric bypass on drug bioavailability, cardiovascular risk factors, and metabolic biomarkers. She also leads research on the mechanistic understanding of the complex host-microbiome-drug interplay to optimize immunosuppressive drug therapy.
Dr. Robertsen teaches several courses at the University of Oslo including FARM2110 - Pharmacotherapy 1, FARM4120 - Drug development, and FARM5150 - Applied pharmacokinetics and dosing in clinical practice. Her teaching reflects her research expertise in clinical pharmacology and therapeutic drug monitoring.
She has published extensively in high-impact journals including Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Transplantation, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, and Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
