Since 2021, she has served as President of the Historical Sciences Master's program (LM-84).
Her educational background includes a degree in Ancient Letters (1992) from the University of Florence (110/110 with honors) and a four-year doctoral program (1993-1997). Prior to her current position, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Perugia (2000-2004) and taught as a contract professor of Roman History at the University of Florence starting in 2001-2002. She qualified as associate professor in 2004.
Mastrorosa's research spans multiple interconnected areas: Roman historiography of the imperial age (Livy, Tacitus, Cassius Dio, Ammianus Marcellinus), with focus on legal-social aspects; family structures and female condition in ancient Rome and their Renaissance reception; political-social role of forensic orators in late-republican and imperial Rome; political aspects in epistolary collections (Pliny the Younger, Sidonius Apollinaris, Cassiodorus); memory and interpretation of Roman institutions in Renaissance antiquarian tradition; and history of Roman scientific and technical culture in the modern age.
Her recent publications demonstrate a sustained focus on gender studies in antiquity, particularly examining women's roles and experiences in Roman history and their reception in later periods. She has also developed significant expertise in environmental history of ancient Rome, founding the interdisciplinary network ERA (Ecologia Roma Antica - Écologie Rome Ancienne) in 2019. Her work frequently bridges ancient history with Enlightenment thought, examining how Roman history was interpreted and utilized during the 18th century.
