Ida Åkerlund is a Lecturer at Linköping University within the Unit of Physiotherapy under the Division of Prevention, Rehabilitation and Community Medicine (PRNV). She holds a Master of Science in Physiotherapy (2013) and is a registered physiotherapist since 2010. Her roles include teaching anatomy, neurology, orthopedics, and physiotherapy, coordinating semester 3 of the Physiotherapy programme, and supervising student essays. She focuses on injury prevention in sports, particularly in youth floorball and football, emphasizing program compliance and coach support.
Her research interests span sport injuries, epidemiology and prevention, and the biomechanics of joints and muscles. She collaborates with colleagues like Prof. Martin Hägglund on initiatives like the Knee Control and Sport without injury programme (SWIPE). Recent studies investigate barriers to exercise adherence in youth sports and gender differences in injury prevention efficacy.
Ida serves as an examiner for multiple programme semesters, a PBL-group tutor, and contributes to movement education for nursing and physiotherapy students. She actively engages in interdisciplinary efforts within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, bridging clinical practice and academic research.
