Ibukun Gabriel Awolusi

Ibukun Gabriel Awolusi is an Assistant Professor in the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Construction Management at the Bill and Margie Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design, The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). As a first-generation international student, he leverages his personal experiences to mentor students through programs like UTSA’s First-Gen STEM Scholars, the Associated General Contractors of America student chapter, and the Faculty Peer Mentoring Program.

Educational Background:

• Bachelor’s degree with first-class honors in Building from the University of Lagos, Nigeria
• Master’s degree with distinction in Construction Management from the University of Lagos
• Second Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering from The University of Alabama (UA), completed in 2017

Awolusi’s research focuses on construction science, safety management, innovation and technology, sustainable infrastructure and materials, construction education, and workforce development. He integrates practical case studies, guest lectures, and field trips into his teaching to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

Recognized for his teaching excellence, Awolusi received the Outstanding Teaching Award in 2020 and the Excellence in Teaching Award for his college in 2022. He also serves as the division leader of construction science and management at UTSA.
