Ibrahim N. Abusharif is an Associate Professor in Residence at the Journalism and Strategic Communication Program, Northwestern University in Qatar. He holds a PhD in Religious and Islamic Studies from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, a master’s from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, and an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. His research focuses on digital media’s impact on religious authority, Middle East media framing, and decolonization of storytelling. He teaches courses in journalism (e.g., 'Feature and Magazine Writing') and religious studies (e.g., 'Media and Religion').
Abusharif has secured grants for projects such as the 'Multiversity Grant—Innovation in Teaching Grant' (developing a case study model for religious pluralism) and a 'Undergraduate Research Experience Program Grant' (studying social media and the Gulf Crisis). His journalism has appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Los Angeles Review of Books. He has edited over 30 books and translations, including Quranic and Islamic texts.
His recent work examines embodied knowledge vs. digital learning in Islam, framing of global conflicts, and the role of social media in religious discourse during crises. He advocates for critical analysis of media narratives shaping perceptions of the Middle East.
