Ibon Aranburu

Ibon Aranburu is a researcher at the Applied Photonics Group (APG), a multidisciplinary research group recognized as outstanding by the Basque Science System with stable funding from Basque, Spanish, and European institutions. The group comprises 20 Ph.D. holders and 6 Ph.D. students working under the leadership of Prof. Joseba Zubia.

His research aligns with APG's core focus areas including photonics, optical fiber sensors, plastic optical fibers, and aeronautical applications. The group specializes in manufacturing microstructured plastic optical fibers, active fiber optics, interferometric fiber optic sensors using Fabry-Perot cavities, microfluidic Raman systems, and structural health monitoring solutions for aircraft and turbines.

APG maintains a well-equipped laboratory developed through institutional funding and collaborates with international research groups and industry partners to create optical sensor prototypes for real-world applications like aircraft monitoring systems.
