Ian van Tets is an Associate Professor at the WWAMI School of Medical Education and the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alaska. His research focuses on physiological ecology, particularly the mechanisms underlying ecological and pathological phenomena in small mammals, birds, and humans, with emphasis on type II diabetes, alcohol-related metabolic disorders, and seasonal adaptations in sub-arctic and desert species.
- PhD in Zoology (University of Wollongong, 1996)
- JD and LLM (University of Southern Queensland, 2011-2015)
His work employs dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) to study body composition in small animals and explores nutritional ecology through rodent and avian pollination studies. Recent publications examine hibernation's effects on bone density, seasonal reproduction in voles, and alcohol's metabolic impacts across species.
